Whoops - little late with my best of the week! Here it is from last week...
This black and white dress was once again a 'hand me down' from a lovely friend. It's a little bit big for me so I popped an old belt round it and think it looks great
Dress is from target and looked great with the belt and a pair of slingbacks.
Wasn't sure about this headband when I put it on at first but it was so great keeping my hair off my face and I think it looks super cute in this photo so I'm sure it'll be featuring more often now!
I love this postie skirt so much. It's already featured in this blog before and I'm sure you'll see it many times more (especially given that it's the most expensive piece of clothing I've bought in a long time!). Put together with a skin coloured vest top and this great white vest my mother-in-law got me from the UK.
I saw this vest top in kmart and thought it was really fun. Dottie 3/4 jeans making a reappearance again along with a white vest top (I'm sure you've realised by now that I love my vest tops and I love layers!) and I promise I put shoes on later too!
As always - I would love to hear your comments on what looks good and how I can improve my efforts to become funky and would welcome comments on this blog! Thanks x

Colour - it's a beautiful thing!
Colour - I love it. I've never been someone who is obsessed with wearing black, I've always liked to add a splash of colour to my outfits and personally think it really suits me.
I love looking in my wardrobe and seeing colourful things in there and they help to improve my mood in the morning when I've dragged myself out of bed to go to work.
And no - my wardrobe isn't always that tidy but I do try and make an effort to keep it fairly tidy mostly so as I can see what's in there to help me choose the days outfit.
One simple and easy way to add a splash of colour to any outfit is with painted nails and it turns out that my three year old loves having her nails painted too so it's a great activity to do whilst we're snuggled up watching a film together on a Sunday ready to snaz up my Monday morning outfit.
Cheap mummy and daughter fun activity and cheap fashion accessory - perfect for a practical but funky mum!

Best of the Week
Bumper week this week so let's get started...
Got this gorgeous top as a pressie from a friend who had worn it once and was unlikely to wear it again - it's fabulous and so comfy to wear. Teamed with black pants I think it looks great.
Top is from Veronika Maine and pants are from an op shop.
I love this dress. It can be dressed up or down and made the perfect outfit for work with lunch and dinner out (for my birthday). These shoes are so versatile too and being wedges they were super comfy for the walk to the train
Dress is from Valley Girl and jewellery was a birthday present from my parents.
I wouldn't normally wear this dress to work but I decided to give it a go as it was a really hot day and I ended up loving it. It kept me cool whilst being pretty flattering and I felt 'pretty' for once.
Dress is from Paper Scissors.
I seem to have had an obsession with ponytails this week! I think it may be time to start playing around with a few hairstyles to compliment my outfits.
Fairly relaxed outfit this one but it worked. White vest top from kmart under my wrap round top (bought for me by my mother-in-law from the UK) and teamed with black pants (different ones from above but once again from an op shop!).
And last but by no means least; this weekends casual outfit - jeans, a top I stole from my mother-in-law and a pair of thongs. Chilled out, casual but still trying to keep it as far away from frumpy as I can!
I'd love to hear what you think to this weeks outfits.

Best of the Week
The round up of this weeks best of (complete with photo bomb from Hubbie and Daughter!).
Summer is on it's way so my legs are finally getting to see the light of day (you have fair warning)!
Kmart shirt makes an appearance again this week but this time I put it over the top of my black Valley Girl Pinafore dress and teamed it with a pair of black sling backs. I haven't tried this outfit out before but I like it and it adds a different look for the dress.
And finally, a nice summer dress for a lovely day hanging out with my daughter. This is one of my favourites from last summer and it's definitely going to be making a lot of appearances again this year. It's such an easy one to wear (no ironing needed) and keeps me cool but also makes me feel 'pretty' with it's flower design. Thongs are a must of course for practical fun but these Kmart beauties are decorated with beads so help to dress it up slightly.
There you have it - my best of the week. Let me know what you think!

One again a kmart special. This dress is great as it's very stretchy and very forgiving, I teamed it with some wedges to suit a workday 'smart casual' whilst also making it practical enough for a 'food truck' picnic and the walk to the train station.

Hubbie and Daughter were determined to photo bomb me so here they are, and here's my outfit (although I forgot I was still wearing my thongs and swapped them over for cream heels before I left for work). Jacquie skirt (normally part of a suit) and Target top (hand me down from a lovely friend of mine - free new clothes!!).

Where it all started
One memory sticks in my mind the most as to when I realised I wasn't the most fashionable kid on the block. I was stood in a changing room aged about 14 trying a dress on (I can't even remember what for) when I asked the opinion of my older sister as to what she thought of the dress. Now my sister has always been really supportive of me but she recognised that I wanted her honest opinion on the dress. She told me it made me look frumpy. This was the first time I had heard that word but it has stuck with me ever since. Asking her what she meant by this, the only way she could describe it to me was to say 'you look like a Fishermans wife'. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course but I understood straight away what she meant and that this definitely wasn't the look I was going for!
I am overweight, I have large thighs, massive bingo wings and folds on my stomach and back where they shouldn't be but over the years I have learnt to some extent how to hide these under my clothes. However, what I haven't learnt is how to be fashionable at the same time. Recently however, I have started to take more of an interest in the way I look. My daughter is now three years old and I finally feel like I am getting some of myself back and that I'm not just 'Olive's Mummy' but that I'm a person in my own right too.
I have worked full time since Olive was six months old, so it's strange to think that I have felt this way but it's only recently that I have realised it. I absolutely adore being a mum but the task I have ahead is making sure that I spend time to make myself feel good in the way I look so as my daughter grows up to learn to respect what she has been given and make the most of it.
So there lyes my challenge!

Best of the week
Just two outfits this week as I wore a couple of repeats!
Nice casual outfit. Jeans, silver sandals, a hand me down blue silk vest and this great cardigan that's so versatile it goes with everything.
Love this Target dress. I normally avoid stripes as they are known for making you look larger but I actually think this one suite me. Teamed it with some silver sandals a long necklace and a bracelet.
As always - I would welcome suggestions and constructive criticism.
